Trusts - public limited companies listed on the London Stock
Exchange that invest in a portfolio of equities and/or bonds.
The
objective of a trust may be capital and/or income growth from
a portfolio specialising in one industrial sector or geographical
area, or it may be more generalist. Portfolios are run by
dedicated fund managers with sector expertise specific to
the trusts' objectives. Trusts with similar objectives are
grouped together within subsectors making it easy to select
and compare trusts.

trusts therefore offer investors access to professionally
managed and diversified portfolios.
As
public companies, investment trusts have readily available
quoted prices and produce detailed accounts, regular information
such as net asset value and shareholders normally hold full
voting rights. Performance of an investment trust can be monitored
at the price or asset level in absolute terms, or by reference
to its peers or benchmark. Frequently, the price per share
may differ from the net asset value per share, which creates
a discount or premium value.
