RVC
Venture Capital
RVC Venture
RVC
is primarily focused on investment opportunities in Europe
where, despite a relatively immature private equity technology
market, returns in technology, for example in the UK over
the last 10 years, have been significantly above other asset
classes. Selective investments will be made in the US, where
RVC has an office and where local market intelligence will
also better advise European deals.
RVC
will focus exclusively on software. The emphasis on Europe
and software continues the investment strategy initiated by
RVC in 1997, when its headquarters were relocated to Europe
in order to take advantage of a stream of investment opportunities,
an underdeveloped venture capital market and more attractive
valuations.
Having
invested in Europe for 6 years, RVC has created a strong brand
matched by few other venture capitalists in the technology
sector. RVC invests at all stages but will target early stage
companies beginning to commercialise their technology.
The
RVC Fund is able to invest early due to its operational experience,
deep technical expertise and a strong network of commercial
partners who can assist with the commercial assessment of
companies prior to general market adoption and paying customers.
The investment partners at RVC have either been customers
and builders of software in their careers or bring significant
transaction experience. The strategy of investing early is
appropriate for Europe, which has relatively more small and
mid size technology companies, and fewer large ones. Investing
early, implying lower valuation, and working towards trade
sale exits will allow RVC to make attractive returns without
having to depend on blockbuster public markets
exits.
