Barclays
Capital conducts the Group's international investment banking
business. The business focuses on areas where it believes
it has competitive advantage and which are integral to the
Group's broader business strategy. Barclays Capital serves
as the Group's principal point of access to the wholesale
markets and also deals in these markets with governments,
supranational organisations, corporates, banks, insurance
companies and other institutional investors.
The
activities of Barclays Capital are grouped in two principal
areas:
Rates,
which includes sales, trading and research relating to government
bonds, money markets, foreign exchange, commodities and their
related derivative instruments
Credit,
which includes origination, sales, trading and research relating
to loans, securitised assets, corporate bonds and their related
derivative instruments and private equity investment and equity
derivatives.
