Northwest Development Agency Business Finance
The
Northwest Development Agency ( NWDA ) plays an innovative
and pivotal role in helping the regions small and medium
sized companies and entrepreneurs access growth capital from
a widening range of providers including business angels (private
investors) and venture capital funds.
The
Northwest Development Agencys Business Finance Services
delivered directly and indirectly to small businesses,
investors and the professional financial community
assist unquoted companies seeking finance and potential investors.
The
Northwest Development Agency's finance team can evaluate investment
proposals, groom SMEs and entrepreneurs in presentation techniques,
and offer expert guidance on sourcing finance from a range
of sources. These include business angels, seedcorn funds,
venture capital, and the OFEX market (a share trading platform
for unlisted companies). Since 1993 the team has provided
equity finance counselling to over 2500 companies, and introduced
over 500 start-ups and SMEs to investors. The team has raised
over £14 million, mainly from private investors, in
amounts ranging from £2,500 to £500,000. This
has unlocked a further £27 million from banks and other
sources. Three distinct packages are available: an Advisory
Service, Investors Club and one-day training workshops.
These
services are delivered under the TEChINVEST brand. See www.techinvest.org.uk
for further details of the successes, services and investment
opportunities in some of the regions growing businesses.
The
Northwest Development Agency has however been conscious that
many of the regions new and small businesses with growth
potential have not been able to raise the finance they have
needed from the venture capital industry in particular. Significant
resources have been committed to the establishment of a number
of new seed and venture capital funds investing only in Northwest
businesses, in most of which the Agency is sole or a significant
investor.
