Hewitsons Business Consultancy and Training
The
Hewitsons Technology Group regularly runs in-house training
sessions for businesses.
For
example:
- Understanding,
using and negotiating contracts on the basis of your standard
terms and conditions of business ("STCs"). Your
STCs are arguably the most important contractual document
that your business uses: but they provide no protection
unless they are used correctly. Those individuals within
your business who are at the sharp end of contracting with
your suppliers or your customers need to understand the
benefits of your STCs, know how to use them, and, ideally,
to be able to negotiate appropriate amendments to them when
required.
- What
your sales force needs to know about the law. This has been
a particularly popular course. The people who work on the
sales end of your business need to understand not only the
benefits of your STCs, how to use them and negotiate them,
but also a range of other things. For example, they should
appreciate the dangers of making exaggerated claims for
your products or services, the danger of casual use of e-mail
and so on.
- Intellectual
property basics. If your staff carry out research and development,
or manage technical staff or handle the contracting out
of research and development services, they should understand
the basics of intellectual property. The benefits of understanding
the kind of protection that the law can provide for the
results of creative effort, how to obtain and enhance that
protection, how to ensure that the relevant rights are owned
by your business, and the possibilities for exploiting intellectual
property rights, are potentially enormous. We have provided
residential courses on these subjects. They are particularly
suited to a workshop approach, and can be great fun.
- Data
protection. Data protection laws are complex and constant
vigilance is required to ensure compliance. Your business
needs individuals who understand the key rules for compliance
with data protection laws. Their approach is one of "training
the trainers".
Hewitsons
can provide training at their premises but generally they
have found that training at clients' premises (or a hired
venue) is preferable.
Hewitsons
will be pleased to discuss your requirements and ensure that
the training is tailored and of specific relevance to your
business.
They
also provide a range of consultancy services, including for
example:
- Intellectual
property audit. For many businesses, intellectual property
is a key asset. You need to be able to demonstrate ownership
of and appropriate protection for your intellectual property
assets. For all businesses, it is important to ensure that
all necessary intellectual property licences are in place,
on appropriate terms, and secure. Getting these things right
makes a big difference to the value of your business, which
is particularly important if you are contemplating a sale.
In that situation, the shareholders and directors will personally
be required to give warranties and will personally take
the risk of there being deficiencies in the intellectual
property position of the company.
- Data
protection audit. Data protection laws are complex. Hewitsons
have a streamlined approach to auditing for data protection
compliance and putting in place appropriate systems to ensure
future compliance.
- Legal
audit. Hewitsons have on occasions carried out wider legal
audits. The scope will depend on the nature and circumstances
of your business, and the purpose for which the audit is
required. It may for example be that a sale of your business
is contemplated, or that aspects of your business require
streamlining and you need to know what legal factors must
be taken into account.
Hewitsons
will be pleased to discuss your requirements for consultancy
and training.
